Why I hate Seth Godin (Summer Reading List, week 5)…

I hate Seth Godin. I don’t dispute his intelligence or creativity. I don’t dislike his approach. I don’t even disrespect with his hairline (excellent brand image, by the way). It’s that he tells us things we ought to know already and makes a small fortune doing it. Take Seth’s latest book, “The Dip.” The thing weighs less than my Blackberry Pearl. Yet it’s filled with page after page of useful tips and advice for improving your business. While it reads something like a self-help book for entrepreneurs, it contains enough solid, real world examples to help any business or individual avoid getting stuck in a rut. Or a “Dip.” So, call it envy. Call it jealousy. Call it sour grapes, if you like. But don’t call it anything less than a glowing recommendation for “The Dip.” If you feel you’re going nowhere fast in what you’re doing, you need to read this book. How you feel about Seth afterwards will be your business.
