The Facebook Marketing Book by Dan Zarrella & Alison Zarrella (Book Review of the Week-ish)

A few months ago, I reviewed Justin Levy’s Facebook Marketing, and described the book as “…more of a how-to than a why-you-should.” Now, The Facebook Marketing Book by Dan Zarrella and Alison Zarrella takes the idea a step further. Almost a desk reference, The Facebook Marketing Book looks at various “how-to” aspects of Facebook and the best ways to put those to use for your business.

And, as with Levy’s book, that’s a Seriously Good Thing.

With over 600 million members, it’s impossible to ignore the utility of Facebook as a marketing platform. Why would you want to? So Zarrella & Zarrella don’t spend much time explaining why you ought to use Facebook; the authors dive right into the details. The Zarrellas move quickly through those details, dedicating a page to each topic, along with an image highlighting the topic at hand. And they do so with style.

Dan Zarrella—known as The Social Media Scientist—lives up to his billing. Chapter 9, with its look at cross-promoting content from other sources on Facebook is filled with solid information about the types of words, parts of speech, styles of lists and sundry other details most likely to generate Likes, Shares and all sorts of success on the social network. It may also be worth the price of the book all by itself.

Given this scientific focus, I was a little disappointed that it didn’t go into more detail on how to get the most from Facebook’s analytics—covered in Chapter 12, it’s one of the lighter sections of the book—though I suspect that’s more a limitation of the tool than the book.

Why not grab a copy of The Facebook Marketing Book? Or the Kindle edition,
if you prefer. Packed with useful information about how best to use the social network to reach your customers, it might be just the desk reference your desk has been missing.
