An example of why social networks work…

Relationships between people are funny things. Social networks often highlight exactly how funny. For instance, Forrester analyst Peter Kim put together a great Facebook introduction for marketers interested in using the social networking site, essentially illustrating the value of social networks by linking to various sources. I’ve read Peter Kim for a long time, but don’t check out his personal blog often. I found it by following a link from Patrick Schaber, who I found in turn via Matt McGee. Matt I found because we share the same tags on MyBlogLog, the blogging social network. I’m now more knowledgeable about a topic that interests me (Facebook) because of the work of someone I know (Kim) that I discovered through two people new to me (McGee and Schaber) because I share a common interest with one (McGee). That’s how social networks work. They uncover the things we didn’t know were right in front of us. Cool, eh?
