Spring feed reader cleaning (Small Business E-commerce Link Digest – June 11, 2010)
Normally, I like to have a theme that links my Friday, um, links, but this is a bunch of random stuff stuck in my feed reader that I’ve had piling up for the last couple of weeks. So, without much introduction or linkage, here’s this week’s, um… linkage:
- Smashing Magazine has an extraordinary article on getting started with selling online, which, paired with this post about testing your online business idea may get some of you still offline to reconsider. If those don’t change your mind, maybe this will.
- Now, one guy who knows a lot about selling online is Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh. I’m thoroughly enjoying his new book “Delivering Happiness: A Path to Profits, Passion, and Purpose”
. And what I’m finding out from it is, that as much as he knows selling online, he knows still more about creating a productive culture. Now, in a recent interview, Tony explains to Inc. Magazine on why he sold Zappos.. The decision was entirely about preserving that culture. And that’s likely what leads to legendary Zappos customer service stories like this one.
- While I don’t think it’s likely to turn an Attila the Hun-like boss into Tony Hsieh, Harvard Business Review offers a great list of 12 things that good bosses believe. Do you believe them, too?
- Finally, great leaders learn to connect with their customers, too. And if you don’t know how to do that, Shannon Paul’s Very Official Blog has a great tutorial on how to develop a social media strategy that’s worth checking out.
Huh. Would you look at that. There was a theme about being a leader, whether of people or thought, hidden in there after all. But, then, what else would you expect of thinks, eh? Now if I’d only discovered that before I wrote this post’s awesome title. Ah, well. What are you gonna do, right?
